Christmas is here!

With only a couple more sleeps until Christmas, the Poachers team have been extremely busy. There have been customers dining in the cafe throughout the week; the farm shop has seen an influx of folk collecting Christmas ham, turkey, hampers and a number of other delicious treats, in preparation for their Christmas feasts.

The weather has cleared to produce what is the most perfect day. Let’s hope it stays this way until Christmas day! After what has been a very busy, yet rewarding year, we are looking forward to putting our feet up for a few relaxing days. We hope you can do the same! To all of our wonderful customers, thank you for your support, have a very merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing in you in 2012.

Rustic Romance

Wedding season has begun with couples saying ‘I do' on the beautiful homestead lawn. The surrounds look absolutely gorgeous, the grass is a lush green, the flowers are in full bloom, and the birds are happily chirping – the perfect setting for a relaxed wedding. This weekend’s weather forecast is looking a little ominous, so we all have our fingers crossed!

The seasonal change from winter to spring around Canberra is absolutely amazing. The team at Poachers are lucky enough to be surrounded by blooming wattle and blossom trees and adorable baby lambs! Escape to the country and you too can enjoy these beautiful surrounds. There’s no better way to spend time on the weekend than soaking up the midday sun on our terrace while enjoying a yummy meat platter and a glass of wine. A Fine Food Champion

A number of our smoked meat products were awarded medals at this year’s Royal Hobart Fine Food Awards and our Thai chicken thigh received Champion Smallgoods - the Poachers team are thrilled!

Gold was awarded to the smoked duck breast; silver to the Sicilian chicken breast, sweet chilli chicken thigh and chicken breast with tarragon and lemon; and bronze to the smoked chicken breast.

Why not pop out to Poachers and grab some of these fabulous products from our pantry, or try a sample at our tasting bar? You won’t be disappointed!

The Fireside Festival is here and we have a number of events on at our Smokehouse Cafe throughout the month!

This weekend we have our Fireside Degustation Dinner, an exciting 100 Mile Meal and wonderful entertainment provided by local musicians over lunch, Saturday and Sunday.

Leave the working week behind and escape to the country to enjoy dinner by the fireside. The Smokehouse is oh-so-warm with the potbelly fires burning. The Fireside Festival is fast approaching and we have organised a number of exciting events throughout August.

The Smokehouse Cafe is the place to be with music by the fireside every Saturday and Sunday lunch. A fabulous five course degustation dinner will be matched to the Wily Trout and Fingerlings wines and this year we have a special 100 Mile Meal - a three course menu designed using only ingredients from within a 100 mile radius of Poachers. The Poachers team cannot wait!

Last year saw events fully booked the whole month through, so be sure to call us to make a booking.

We have just released our new winter menu! A range of innovative brunch, lunch and dinner dishes have been created using our delicious smoked meats. Fabulous food, wine and music at Harvest Festival

We saw record numbers at the Smokehouse Café during this year’s Harvest Festival. The annual event was celebrated around region over the first weekend in April. Local wineries and businesses involved were highly impressed with this year’s turn out – thanks to stunning autumn weather.

Our customers were able to sit out on the terrace and relax while listening to local jazz duo Bernau and Lambert. Delicious food, wine and fabulous music was enjoyed by all under the warmth of the autumn sun. We’re already looking forward to next harvest!

Creating delicious stories with your family and friends

We’ve put our tasty recipes to print with the assistance of world renowned food photographer Alan Benson. Alan spent time with our ever-so inventive chef Mel Hanns, to create a range of fabulous recipe cards.

Mel had lots of fun while preparing each dish to perfection. Some the Poachers team even braved the -4 degree Celsius conditions to ensure some great shots were captured!

The mouth-watering images accompanied by easy to follow directions make it very easy for you recreate your very own Poachers meal. Go ahead, try it for yourself and let us know just how much you impressed your guests!
